Next week is the annual Santa Fe Indian Market. I love this time of year because I always have a lot of friends in town, and also because there are so many cool events happening. For those who are market regulars, you know that things don’t just happen on the weekend – it’s a full week of events, and you also know that there are a lot of events not affiliated with the official Market. But for those newbies, it can be a bit overwhelming, so I’ve put together a little market week guide & FYIs (note this is a LONG post, but hopefully you will find the info useful)…
my man & baby girl at market a couple years ago, lolzzzzz
I couple weeks ago I proudly posted videos and pics of my newly redecorated home office on my IG story. One of the comments I received was from @hozho_life (a Navajo artist I follow on IG who draws simple and colorful sketches, mostly of Navajo women) suggesting that his drawings would look perfect in the space, well he was right…
Remember that time I was like “oh I’m a blogger now” and then dropped off the face of the earth…well I’m back!
Soooooo…I thought I would show off some of the earrings I have collected in the past few months bc it’s shopping season and maybe you need some ideas. Also, in case you’re in the area (Santa Fe), I provided some info on a few local shopping events…enjoy!

Does anyone else ever get the sudden urge to do something creative? Well that was me last week and it presented itself in the form of a new dress for my baby girl. I got out my stash of Blue Bird Flour bags, grabbed one of my sáanii scarves, and went to work.
This was the outcome…the cutest little sundress aka shándíín dress ever for my baby girl (shándíín means sunlight/sunshine/sunbeam in Navajo).
I, Carrie, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’17. I endeavor to wear one self-made or refashioned garment/accessory/shoe each day for the month of May 2017.
Sooooo…just a couple hours ago a friend messaged me and asked if I was going to participate in Me-Made-May and I was like “huh?”, fast forward to 20 minutes ago and I am now signed up and ready to go (kinda).
Me-Made-May started in 2010 as a challenge to individuals who like to sew to wear the garments they have made with the goal of “improving your relationship with your handmade wardrobe, and perhaps also learning about yourself and your creativity.”

My goal is to wear at least one item I have sewn or refashioned each day for the month of May. Most likely there will be repeats, but it will be fun to style them differently each time. I’m not going to post daily but will try to take a pic every day and post a weekly-ish roundup. Today my refashioned item is these Converse Chuck Taylor Allstars that I added spikes to awhile back, I refer to these as my concert shoes:
I wasn’t prepared today, so I don’t have a pic of me wearing them, but rest assured I’ll be rockin these when I go pick up the little one from school today 😉
UPDATE: yeah this didn’t happen minus a few days, I was ill-prepared…next year!
About a year ago I was super pregnant helping a friend shop for a wedding she was in. I was all “good thing I’m pregnant, I’m not tempted to buy anything because nothing fits.” Literally 5 minutes later, I found something…
If you come to my house, I might make you play dress-up and ask you a bunch of questions…
This past month+ has been super stressful and busy, and my somewhat lofty goal of blogging once a week was the first thing to get axed from my to-do list…but I’m back, and determined to post at least a couple times a month (fingers crossed, hair braided).
I started this blog without a clear direction in mind – just something I have wanted to do for awhile, and honestly I have so many interests that I am still not quite sure what this will end up being. However, I did neglect to give an introduction which is a total no-no as far as Navajo norms go, so… Continue reading
Winter means boot season, and there is nothing worse (totally exaggerating) than pulling out your favorite pair of boots only to see they are starting to look old and worn due to creases, aka boot slump.
Here is a quick, simple, and FREE way to avoid creases in your boots and booties while also keeping the boot section of your closet looking neat and tidy.
