A few things to know when visiting Santa Fe…
- Uber and Lyft are both available in Santa Fe but availability is VERY LIMITED.
- Cell service is not always the best around downtown so no it’s not your phone, it’s Santa Fe.
- Elevation – Santa Fe is at 7000 ft elevation. High elevation has a few side effects you should be aware of – thinner air means you may be more tired due to less oxygen; it also means you are more likely to get dehydrated so drink lots of water (the Institute for Altitude Medicine recommends an extra 1 to 1.5 liters/day). Also, thinner air means the sun is intense, so plan accordingly.
- Nightlife – there is none. This town pretty much goes to sleep with the sun. There are a few places to go, but don’t be surprised if they are mostly empty. Check out the event list for the happenings!
- There are multiple art markets:
- Wheelwright Museum Artist’s Market, Aug 16-17
- Pathways Indigenous Arts Festival @ Buffalo Thunder Casino, Aug 16-18
- Sovereign Santa Fe, Aug 16-18
- Free Indian Market, Aug 17-18
- IAIA Recent Graduate Art Market, Aug 17-18
- Santa Fe Indian Market, Aug 17-18
- And two Native Film Festivals (Aug 15-18):
- Native Cinema Showcase Santa Fe: The National Museum of the American Indian’s Native Cinema Showcase is an annual celebration of the best in Native film. In honor of the museum’s twentieth anniversary in Washington, DC, the theme of looking back and moving forward will be highlighted with a star-studded panel featuring Native trailblazers who made their impact on Hollywood. Films explore the challenges still confronting Indigenous peoples on disparate fronts, including sports, missing and murdered Indigenous women, intergenerational trauma, and rematriation of the land with buffalo.
- Pathways Indigenous Arts Festival Film Festival: We are thrilled to announce the Pathways Indigenous Arts Festival 2024 Film Festival, showcasing an exceptional lineup of 46 shorts and films created by talented Indigenous filmmakers and storytellers. This year’s festival promises to celebrate the rich and diverse voices within Indigenous communities, offering a unique platform for these creators to share their powerful narratives. Join us for an inspiring cinematic journey that highlights the artistry and resilience of Indigenous cultures.
